Reviving my home making skills!

Today I did something that I have not done for several years. I canned tomatoes! This morning Charlie brought the canning equipment and a box of tomatoes. I got to work and now I will soon have 5 quarts! [I am taking a little break while they are in the water bath.] I think that will be all my canning for today. I still have tomatoes, but some are not ready to be canned. Perhaps next week I will make another attempt.

Oh Aunt Jane, I am so jealous! I was so wanting to have a big garden so that I could can this year. I have about 7 or 8 tomato plants and that is it...they are slow going too. Everytime I get a decent sized green one, one of the girls proudly bring it to me! The one has ripened on my sill, and made a delicious toasted tomato sandwich for my lunch. but no more fruit as of yet. ripe that is.

Awww.. too bad Wendy.. but enjoy the girls.. all too soon they will be grown up and not interested in presenting you with treasures such as these..
You can always buy a bushel.
Jane.. I'm proud of you. Is this the first time you've canned? Good for you!!

No, it is not the first time. As I stated, it is the first time I have canned in several years. I hope to do 4-6 jars at a time. It does make me feel a bit smug to look at my 5 jars. Not a big accomplishment compared to your canning feats, but it is an accomplishment.
